Classification of PCB materials

You should normally choose to make your board on a product known commercially as 'Econoboard'. This is the type of board used in most domestic electronic equipment and although it has glass fibre outer layers the epoxy binder has a paper based core.

You may need one of the PTFE based materials if you work at high frequencies and high Q. If you have a surface mount board with a lot of very fine tracks then FR4 seems to have slightly better track adhesion.

Our stocks of Econoboard and FR4 are both 1/16 inch (1.6 millimetre) thick. You can supply us with other thicknesses if you wish. Both types are available with copper on one side only or on both sides. The copper is applied at 1 ounce per square metre (0.035 mm thickness).

Board Stocks

Board with the stocked flag 'Y' is available immediately, except under abnormal circumstances.

Board with the stocked flag 'N' is not normally held in stock; although it is still possible that some is left over from a previous job. Enquire of Technical Services for the current situation. If your board is not in stock, or if you do not see the particular type you require in this list, then let us know what specification you need and we will attempt to buy it. Most of the PTFE and other exotic dielectric materials must be imported into this country after being manufactured to order. Minimum purchase quantities (~USD300) apply. There is a four week lead time on them.
